Whoops!
I LOVE to make bread from scratch, kneading and all. I don’t know, something about it is just so incredibly homey. I just love it. But I haven’t made it in years. Well, basically since 4 was born. So Sunday I decided I was going to make some no matter we had a billion and one things going on. I have this wonderful honey wheat bread from Weight Watchers and I dove in despite the raised brows from the hubby–he doesn’t like anything that might even resemble the word ‘healthy’. Whole Wheat and Weight Watchers in the same sentence? Definitely an eyebrow raiser.
I still dove in.
I have been lucky enough to be able to get unpasteurized honey from a local bee farmer. My initial reason for seeking this out was allergies. It helps cut them down and I really do swear by it! But that’s another blog post.
I quickly grabbed all the ingredients, threw them together and of course had a helper…

Who decided he LOVED the dough raw. LOL Even I don’t think it tastes all that good raw. But he did and kept sneaking bites when he thought I wasn’t looking. So I got sneaky myself and grabbed the camera. ![]()

I kneaded it and left for 10’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition. He got 3rd over all by the way!!! Then I rushed home, rolled the dough out and put it in pans. I noted that the dough didn’t look like it’d risen much but knew the house had been cold, thus didn’t think too much about it. I did however turn on the oven a bit to throw some heat into the kitchen to get these loaves arising.
They never did. :-( It finally hit me why. The yeast was really, and I do mean really, really old. Like over 4 years old!!!! Blah!
I should have noticed when I mixed the yeast with the liquids that it didn’t bubble, pop and fizz but I was so worried about 4’s help and 10 leaving for his competition and the neighbor stopping by…I didn’t pay it any mind. I simply stirred, talked, mixed, kneaded, covered and left.
Guess what I’m making today? ;-) Oh and if it turns out I’ll add the recipe to my page.

Hello Nicole, I think your bread recipe and outcome look fabulous!! Congrats. we connected in a writer’s community a few months ago, and I added you to myspace and decided to drop by & see what’s going on in your world.
Best wishes,

HI Kandie!
Thanks so much! It was fun to make bread again. I’m going to make sure another four years doesn’t go by without me making it again. =)
So how has the writing been going?
