Blisters

“If you want a place in the sun, you’ve got to put up with a few blisters.”
– Abigail Van Buren

When I saw this quote a couple of days ago I of course immediately thought of it in terms of writing–i.e.–if you want to write, get paid and have it as a job, most likely you are going to have to work at it…most likely you are going to have to deal with praise…with critiques…with blisters. In other words, everything has its pros and cons. Yep, writing.

Well a few days have gone by and it has occurred to me how absolutely perfect this phrase is for many things in life. Some seem more literal than others. And somehow to my wonder I got to thinking…this applies to not just us humans but everything.

See these wonderful rhubarb sprouts?

And how about these peeking tulips tips?

Yep I was seriously getting some spring fever! Then this morning I woke up to this

Late snow fall-2008

It snowed all day long!

snow?

We got some serious inches! But thankfully it was mixed with a heavy rain and the temps were in the mid 40’s so its been melting fast too. The sun has reached that point where it simply melts and that is that. But during the middle of the day I was doing some shopping(have to tell you, if you ever need inspiration as to why you need to stick to your healthy eating and exercising–go swimsuit shopping) and passed a stand of seeds. I backtracked and bought some, snowstorm or not.

seeds

I won’t plant them in little containers just yet…we are afterall getting snow. But we’re getting closer to when I can actually play in the dirt again! YAY! Don’t get me wrong, I love snow, I love all the seasons but I always look forward to each one as it comes.

But what does this have to do with my quote? Well, those little sprouts you see above–they are going to look absolutely beautiful in a few weeks. I’m going to be snapping pictures of them left and right and telling everyone all about them. But to get to that point did they have to get some blisters? Oh yeah, they’re working on those blisters right now…under several inches of snow! I couldn’t help but think how cool this was, how interesting this was, I mean we usually only think of these things in terms of ourselves, as in applying to humans, but just look at those little sprouts and think of them under lots and lots of snow right now.

Those blisters are soooo gonna be worth it.

It’s a great quote, Cole. How are things going with the 70 days challenge?

Hi Shiloh!

Thanks, I really like the quote too.

On Sven, well, I was doing great on Sven then needed to do edits and since my first goal is to finish this book…I’ve not moved forward in terms of word count for Sven. Kind of bummed but when I signed up for it I didn’t think of it in terms of actually finishing the book - only in what I could write. And first drafting writing is easy.
I thought for a bit that I’d still keep up with things but life has gotten way too busy(just wrote a post on it while you were commenting! :chat: ).

Soooo I’m still checking to see how everyone is doing but I guess in a round about way I’m out of the Sven challenge this time.

How’s it going for you?

Life tries to interfere…then I work around it, bang my head, same old, same old.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t necessarily bow out of the round when things aren’t moving as you’d like. Just keep working through them/around them. That blister thing. ;)
